Care and Maintenance

Basic Cleaning Steps

1.  Wash the surface with mild dish washing liquid or powdered detergent and warm water.  Use a soft dish cloth.  Rinse with warm water and dry with a soft cloth.  Water is generally all that is needed.  A quick wipe will clean most stains.

2.  For spots you can't remove with step one, use an all-purpose cleaner or bathroom cleaner.  Follow manufacturer's instructions.  Rinse with warm water and dry with a soft cloth.  NOTE - Do not use cleaners that contain harsh acids, bleach or abrasives.

3.  For very stubborn spots, make a paste with baking soda and water.  The paste will be slightly abrasive so work carefully to keep from damaging the surface you are cleaning.  Dip a toothbrush into the paste to cover the bristles.  Then gently rub the spot with the brush, moving in a circular motion and pressing very lightly.  Rinse the surface with warm water and dry with a soft cloth.

Common Stain Removal

Ketchup - Wipe up with a damp sponge.  If the ketchup has dried, scrape it off and then wash the top with mild detergent and warm water.

Coffee - Washes off with mild detergent and warm water.

Wine or Juice - Remove immediately.  Then treat stain with mild detergent and warm water.  May need to use baking soda paste to remove completely.

Marker or Ink - Use rubbing alchol on a cotton ball to remove ink.  Rinse with warm water and a mild detergent.

Common Damage to Countertop

Cigarette Burn - A lit cigarette that is allowed to remain on a laminate suface will cause a permanent blister that can not be repaired.

Heat from countertop appliances - Laminate surfaces are resistant to some heat damage.  However, prolonged exposure to high heat can cause blistering and delamination that can not be repaired.

Warping - Warping may occur with certain countertop materials and is caused by improper storage or improper installation of the countertop.

Water Damage - Water damage can be caused by moisture penetration into seams, miters and joints.  Water damage is not covered by the CTT warranty.
